Ranitidine HCl
Indications/Uses
Duodenal ulcer, benign gastric ulcer, post-op ulcer, reflux oesophagitis, Zollinger-Ellison syndrome. Prophylaxis of stress ulceration, recurrent hemorrhage from peptic ulcer & Mendelson's syndrome.
Dosage/Direction for Use
Adult 50 mg/2 mL IV inj diluted to contain 50 mg/20 mL every 6-8 hr or 25 mg/hr IV infusion for 2 hr, repeated at 6-8 hr intervals or 50 mg IM inj every 6-8 hr. Prophylaxis of upper GI hemorrhage from stress ulcer Priming dose of 50 mg slow IV inj followed by 0.125-0.25 mg/kg/hr continuous IV infusion. Prophylaxis of Mendelson's syndrome 50 mg IM or slow IV inj 45-60 min before general anesth induction. Infant & childn Severe cases 1/4 of amp tid.
Special Precautions
Symptomatic response does not preclude the presence of gastric malignancy. Renal & hepatic dysfunction. Bradycardia may occur w/ rapid administration. Acute porphyria.
Adverse Reactions
Transient pain at IM inj site & local burning or itching w/ IV administration. GI disturbances, rash. Hypersensitivity reactions, anaphylaxis, angioneurotic edema & small increases in serum creatinine.
